As many of you have already heard, I'll be coming back to America on Tuesday. While Fukuoka has yet to be directly affected by the disasters that have devastated Northern Japan, things have failed to improve over the past week and the future is still uncertain. My friends and family at home are concerned about the instability in the country right now and I am too.
The University of Delaware has agree to allow me to finish up the semester there, so I will still be able to graduate with my double major in physics and Japanese. About half of the students in the exchange program here at Seinan have already left, reducing many of my classes to a mere handful of students.
It is sad to leave so much sooner than I expected and under such unfortunate circumstances, but I am thankful to have had so many great experiences here. Tim came to hang out for a weekend on his way back from Australia, I got to go to Okinawa with several other exchange students, Mary and I spent three wonderful weeks together over the winter break, my parents traveled around Japan with me for spring break, and I went with my friend Yuko to a heavy metal concert. I certainly don't feel shortchanged after doing so many amazing things here.
While I'm sad that I'm leaving Japan, I'm also glad to be coming home. There are a lot of things that I miss from America, foremost my friends and family. I will miss my friends from Seinan a lot and hope I will see them all again.
Great post. I think you nailed it on the head. Your Mom and I are glad we got a chance to visit and see what you like about Japan. That would have been sad if we would have had to cancel. We are looking forward to getting you home.
